Sofia is a Partner in Turks’ Life Insurance & Superannuation team, based in the Melbourne office.
Sofia has more than 21 years' experience practising exclusively in life insurance and superannuation. She specialises in policy drafting and interpretation, life insurance claims, superannuation death benefit claims, complaints handling, dispute resolution, litigation and regulatory compliance. Her expertise also includes complex claims involving fraud, non-disclosure, privacy complaints, anti-discrimination disputes, product design and consumer remediation programs.
She acts for life insurers, superannuation trustees and financial institutions across a broad range of contentious and advisory matters. She regularly advises on retail and group insurance claims, trustee duties, disputed death benefit claims, AFCA complaints, regulatory investigations, breach reporting and large-scale remediation programs. She also represents clients in AFCA, VCAT and OAIC proceedings, as well as litigation across Victorian and interstate jurisdictions.
Having spent seven years in-house with a major insurer, Sofia brings a strong understanding of insurer operations, product development, underwriting and claims frameworks. This experience enables her to provide commercially focused advice that reflects the legal, operational and regulatory considerations affecting insurers and trustees.
