Michael is a Partner in Turks’ General Insurance team, based in the Sydney office.
Michael has more than 23 years’ experience acting exclusively for insurers and self-insured corporations across Australia and internationally. He practises broadly across general insurance, with expertise in motor, property and liability, and additional experience in travel insurance, accident and health, fraud and investigations, and related technical risks.
His motor and property practice encompasses commercial and domestic claims, indemnity disputes, policy interpretation, complex recoveries and large-scale defended demurrage projects. Michael is experienced in managing individual high-value disputes and substantial claims portfolios, from initial assessment and pre-litigation strategy through to contested proceedings.
He acts for some of the largest general insurers in Australia, as well as self-insured corporations, and works closely with management-level stakeholders, technical claims teams and recovery specialists to deliver commercial outcomes.
Having appeared on behalf of insurers in jurisdictions ranging from Tribunals to the Supreme Court, Michael also regularly advises on interstate matters. Clients value his open communication style, strategic judgement and ability to balance technical legal issues with commercial, operational and reputational considerations, including the relationship between insurers and their insureds.
