    ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    The ANZIIF TurksLegal Claims Scholarship is designed to support the professional growth of ANZIIF’s members and the educational and professional development profile of ANZIIF by providing a significant career development opportunity for claims professionals working in Australia’s general insurance industry.

    The ANZIIF TurksLegal Claims Scholarship winner will be awarded with an overseas package valued up to AU$8000 and includes registration to the 2011 Claims Conference & Insurance Services Expo (Nashville, Tennessee, 3-6 April 2011), four nights accommodation valued up to $2000, return economy travel valued up to $2500 and $500 spending money.

    The ANZIIF TurksLegal Claims Scholarship runner-up will be awarded an ANZIIF education voucher to the value of $500.

    WHO CAN ENTER?
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Entrants must be current financial members of ANZIIF, be resident in Australia and be working in a role connected directly with claims. Entry is not open to members of the ANZIIF Board, ANZIIF employees, or lawyers, accountants or medico-legal consultants employed in capacities other than as direct employees of a general insurance company.


    HOW TO ENTER
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Entries for the 2010 ANZIIF TurksLegal Claims Scholarship will close on Friday 29 October 2010.

    Entrants are required to submit an application form together with an essay (3,000 word maximum) answering one of the four questions.

    Entrants are also required to read the terms and conditions outlined in the application form, prior to submitting an entry.


    JUDGING PANEL & CRITERIA
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    The 2009 ANZIIF TurksLegal Claims Scholarship judging panel was comprised of the following industry leaders:

    Paul Angus (Partner, TurksLegal)
    Joan Fitzpatrick (Chief Executive Officer, ANZIIF)
    Nick Kirk (Chief Executive Officer, Calliden)
    John Nagle (Chief Operating Officer, Lumley General)
    Peter Riddell (TurksLegal, Partner)
    Chris Rodd (Technical Counsel, CGU & AILA President)

    2010 Scholarship applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Understanding of the chosen topic
  • Research foundation and conclusions supported by sound evidence documented in a bibliography
  • Clarity of thought
  • Commercial acumen
  • Presentation

    2009 ANZIIF TURKSLEGAL CLAIMS SCHOLARSHIP WINNER AND RUNNER UP
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Winner: Joseph Willis, Claim Solutions Pty Ltd
    Runner Up: Jose Flores, CGU Insurance

    The Scholarship winner and runner up were announced on Friday 4 December 2009 at the ANZIIF General Insurance Breakfast in Sydney.

    The winning papers both addressed the issue of early resolution and payment of claims in adverse situations, including the 2009 bushfires in Victoria and floods in NSW and Queensland.

    2008 ANZIIF TURKSLEGAL CLAIMS SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    2008 Scholarship winner, Nigel Day (Lumley General), attended the 2009 Claims Conference in Seattle, Washington.

    ‘Attending the conference was an exciting opportunity for me. It was interesting to note that many issues and concerns dealt with by claims professionals in Australia are common to claims professionals in other parts of the world.

    ‘The Conference highlights included specific and detailed presentations by leaders in their fields and provided insights into industry best practice.
