Expertise: Claims Litigation & Dispute Resolution  |  General Insurance  |  Insurance & Financial Services

BA LLB (Macquarie University) 1996

Experience:
Paul Angus joined TurksLegal in 2002 and is our General Insurance practice head. Since then he has become a major contributor to the outstanding growth of TurksLegal in general insurance.

Practising exclusively for insurers and self insured corporations, Paul has been involved in several significant torts cases during his career. He acted for the NSW TAB in a well-publicised occupier’s liability case, which was heard by the High Court in 2006 and helped redefine the law in relation to an occupier’s responsibility for the acts of third parties on the occupier’s premises. In addition to public liability, Paul’s areas of expertise include property damage (commercial, domestic and motor vehicle) flood and water damage claims, householders and commercial property liability, theft, arson and fraud claims and recovery actions on behalf of insurers.

Paul also provides advice on issues of indemnity and Insurance Contract Act matters. He has appeared on behalf of insurers in diverse jurisdictions from the Consumer Traders and Tenancy Tribunal to the High Court as well as providing assistance and advice to insurers in the preparation of submissions to Insurance Ombudsman Service.

Paul also heads our team acting on behalf of insurers in relation to deposit bonds including recoveries, litigation and product advice.

His practical approach to claims resolution balances the legal issues with an awareness of the commercial imperatives to achieve the best and most cost-effective resolution of claims and policy issues.

Paul was admitted in December 1996 and practises in NSW.
