Experience:
Lisa joined TurksLegal in July 2008 as a partner in the Insurance & Financial Services team. She is known for the commerciality and frankness of her advice, as well as her strong technical legal skills.

Lisa provides advice to life insurers and superannuation funds with respect to litigated and unlitigated death, disability, trauma, loss of licence and income protection claims. She assists clients with respect to complaints to the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal, the Financial Industry Complaints Service (now the Financial Ombudsman Service), the Privacy Commissioner and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.

Lisa has conducted litigation in several Australian jurisdictions, including appeals to the Federal Court from determinations of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal. She recently successfully conducted proceedings involving 26 defendants in the New South Wales Supreme Court equity division seeking rectification of a group life insurance contract.

Lisa provides advice to life insurance and superannuation industry members on their obligations arising under the Insurance Contracts Act 1984, the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993, the Superannuation (Resolution of Complaints) Act 1993 and other governing legislation. She drafts life insurance contract and disclosure documents, as well as assisting clients in the development of internal procedures and protocols and third party contracts.

Lisa has spent significant periods of time “in house’ as legal counsel for clients, gaining valuable experience and insights through those roles.

Lisa is a co-author of Wickens Law of Life Insurance in Australia. She presents at insurance industry seminars and provides in-house legal updates and training to clients.

Lisa was admitted in August 1997 and practises in NSW.
